Why Is Gray Out Of Style?

Is Gray going out of style? It’s certainly the most popular color being used in modern interior design. But with such a short lifespan, might it be time to consider another hue? With so many popular colors currently in style, including bright reds, purples, and blues, it might be time to give up the contemporary home design monotony. Look at your favorite colors and see if they are as fresh in design as they were 20 years ago.

When contemporary home design first hit the scene, it was full of bright colors. The colors were hot and they were a perfect palette for bold, energetic designers. However, that energy has given way to coolness in recent years. Cool colors have become more suited for cozy, warm settings. While you’re looking through the aisles of a big box home supply store, stop and take a look at the contemporary home decor accessories that are offering cool tones of color this season.

As a result, designers have stopped putting so much emphasis on bold color. They know they’re not going to win a popularity contest with neon colors, so they’ve minimized their use in the new themes and designs. This is good news for people who love bright colors but are tired of the typical neutrals that have been used so often in contemporary home design. It’s a perfect time to try something new.

One intriguing new color is off-white. This off-white is perfect for the contemporary home design because it doesn’t clash with anything. It’s not aggressive like bright red or bold blue. It’s very soothing, almost like you’re trying to relax while you’re in a space. In fact, one of the main features of contemporary home design is the ability to create an atmosphere that’s very restful.

Another interesting color is black. It can be very dramatic, but it doesn’t need to be. Black is the easiest color to pair with so many other colors, and the effect it has is great. When people are exposed to more black, especially in the forms of bleached white, they start to think of black as a style that’s cutting edge.

You also have some nice options if you don’t want to go with black. There are so many people wearing brown these days. Brown is warm, and it pairs well with so many other colors. For instance, if you pair it with a lighter shade of blue, you have a look that’s both sophisticated and comforting. Pair brown with green and you have a color that’s uplifting.

There’s another option, people don’t think about as often as white: gray. Gray can match with just about any color, because it’s such a versatile hue. You can have gray curtains, gray comforters, and gray throw pillows. The versatility is definitely its greatest advantage. You can get the look of almost any color you want in your home if you have the right gray accessories.

So how is gray going out of style? It’s hard to say. It might not even be in vogue for many people. It could be that gray is simply going out of style, or it may be that no one needs to change their color choice anytime soon. But either way, this color is definitely on the rise. You should consider it as an option when choosing new furniture.

One reason many people ask the question is gray is out of style because it’s currently very expensive. Yes, it is. But there are ways around that. Purchase a less expensive piece that’s in a trendy color pattern and you’ll save money.

Another reason is gray is considered unhip. If you’re anything like me, you find it difficult to believe people actually choose a color they hate. I suppose the only way to counter that belief is to add a pop of bright color into your space. This will help make it feel a little bit more up-to-date.

The last question is, “Why is gray out of style?” If the answer isn’t because it’s outdated, then it might just be because people are tired of it. Whatever the case, you can always revive it. Hang a few pictures, put in some new accessories, and see what you can do. Soon you’ll find yourself looking at photos of old-time scenes and thinking “that’s what I’m feeling when I look at it.”
